Beyond Security has taken its scanning system and moved it up a notch with the release of Automated Vulnerability Detection System (AVDS). Beyond Security has a history of offering good vulnerability assessment. With this release, the company is making that data more accessible to manage vulnerabilities.
Organizations are constantly dealing with security problems. “We document between 10 and 20 new security holes or breaches a week,” notes Aviram Jenik, CEO of Beyond Security. Organizations are tasked with tracking all vulnerabilities and new threats coming in, while continuing to solve the ones they found the week before.
AVDS daily scans for vulnerabilities and reports on its findings, but then it goes a step farther; it offers the ability to manage those vulnerabilities. With AVDS, “you can have a full view of all of the networks in an organization in just one computer screen, and the ability to drill down into specific sub-units,” Jenik reports.
The product consists of two components managed through a central interface. Beyond Security’s proprietary scanning system reveals vulnerabilities through simulated hacking. An information server stores and generates reports from the scanned results, and controls and manages all associated scanning systems via a Web interface.
It works behind the scenes automatically. “Once you define the organizations or sub-organizations in the enterprise and the networks for those, (you can) go ahead and schedule scans,” Jenik says. “From this point on, the system starts working automatically.” Reports can then be viewed on the system or sent as alerts to a user’s inbox when a new problem or new vulnerability arises. The system “runs in the background and stops viruses before they hit you,” he adds.
The software also provides the ability to assign trouble tickets. Other features include a scoring mechanism, asset management, the ability to integrate with existing management solutions such as a help-desk system, and the ability to have role-based certification.
Pricing for AVDS starts at $15,000.
AVDS competitors include companies that provide manual auditing. Customers range from small businesses up to Fortune 100 companies. What sets AVDS apart is its knowledge base, Jenik says. The company manages www.securiteam.com, which serves as a focal point for its security knowledge. “We get knowledge about security holes and breaches,” he explains. “We know about it first.”
