Having won developers’ trust with its source code, Dynamsoft has gone on to solve the next problem that multi-site developers (and others) typically face after creating the source code: tracking work on bug fixes, project changes and new features, and/or collaborating on other tasks. Dynamsoft launched Issue Tracking Anywhere last June. Now the company is offering the application as a hosted service.
The significance of Dynamsoft’s newly announced hosted offering is that it appeals to a broader, non-technical audience, extending beyond developers to quality assurance, project management, and other staff. For those potential users who may not have the expertise to install and maintain the application on their own servers, a hosted service that simply lets them use the software to do their work may be more convenient, explains marketing manager Darlea Stilkowski.
The first problem the now-four-year-old company tackled was establishing a safe, speedy, and reliable source code repository/version control link between corporations and remote development teams. Microsoft’s Visual SourceSafe (VSS) worked well enough on corporate networks but not on the Internet, where speed, reliability, and security had become tenuous, especially as development grew more and more dispersed. The solution: Dynamsoft’s SourceAnywhere, which has won wide adoption since 2003.
Building on the version control capabilities of SourceAnywhere, Issue Tracking Anywhere combines tracking, built-in workflow, and e-mail communication to keep multiple project teams on target, with evolving tasks routed to the right participants and everyone continually updated. The workflow can be easily customized for any project, whether it’s testing, quality assurance, or any other issue, Stilkowski adds. Regardless of the task, a work item will remain in the system, once introduced, until it is resolved, she says.
Dynamsoft co-founder and vice president Amy Gu cites numerous competitive differentiators for Issue Tracking Anywhere, including its sophisticated asp.net Web architecture, user-friendly interface, universal browser capability, and strong customization capabilities.
In addition, Issue Tracking Anywhere has the best reporting and query capabilities in its class, and the workflow is very adaptable to the custom requirements of a unique task, according to Gu. Its offering as a hosted service is in itself an advantage, she adds.
Dynamsoft’s Issue Tracking Anywhere customers include FutureVision Technologies, a Salt Lake City document services company. Users of its SourceAnywhere product include Apple, EMC, General Electric Company, Hewlett-Packard, 3M, H&R Block, and IBM.
Issue Tracking Anywhere competitors include Axosoft’s OnTime, Seapine Software’s TestTrack, neither of which offers a hosted version, and Atlassian’s JIRA open-source software, which offers a hosted product.
Pricing for the hosted version of Issue Tracking Anywhere varies from $4 to $11 per month per user. Alternatively, the purchase price is $129 for one user and $199 for a three-person starter pack.
