Compuware Aims to Raise Development Quality
With DevPartner Studio 9.0

With the release of DevPartner Studio 9.0, Compuware is raising the bar on the level of quality that can be delivered. The latest release includes a security scanning feature, a management reporting feature, and support for additional technology.

DevPartner Studio 9.0 “helps development organizations improve application quality, maximize developer productivity, and helps them deliver applications with high reliability, performance, and security,” says Doug Carrier, Compuware’s DevPartner product manager. The product achieves that, he adds, by enforcing coding standards and best practices.

The security scanning feature automatically finds and helps developers fix security issues as early in the development process as possible. Code can be checked not just for errors and quality measurements, but also for security measurements as well.

The integrated management reporting feature can be used to produce HTML reports that can be viewed in a Web browser. The reports can be customized to present such things as what kind of errors exist in the code base, where, how much has changed, what has been tested, and what has not been tested.

Pricing starts at $2,400 per seat.

IBM Enhances Its Big Green Initiative

In an effort to help organizations go green, IBM has launched new software and services related to energy and environmental challenges, including enhancements to all five of its brands.

Laws, regulations, and standards around the world are forcing organizations to address the environmental impact their businesses are making. IBM wants to aid organizations in this endeavor “to help people understand what they can do to gain visibility, control, and automation to the structures they’ve got that are consuming the energy,” says Chris O’Connor, VP of strategy and market management for IBM Tivoli.

Big Blue has unveiled IBM Content Collection and Archiving software to help de-duplicate data and thus conserve precious storage space. The most recent version of IBM FileNet Business Process Manager is also designed to streamline business processes and eliminate redundancies.

IBM combined its Tivoli Usage and Accounting Manager software with Tivoli Monitoring for Energy Management to help organizations keep tabs on their energy costs within their enterprise.

A new product, IBM Rational Test Lab manager, and enhancements to Telelogic System Architect help organizations plan how their applications should be deployed on servers based on how much power will be consumed.

Pricing for IBM Tivoli Usage and Accounting Manager starts at $135,000. Tivoli Monitoring for Energy Management is $340. Pricing for Rational Test Lab Manager starts at $32,400. And pricing for Lotus Domino starts at $15.

Vision Solutions Strives to Eliminate Downtime
With ORION Solutions 6.0

ORION Solutions 6.0 high-availability and disaster recovery software from Vision Solutions adds a role swap option, enhanced performance and ease of use.

“This release represents the most significant improvement to both the native green screen operations interface and the graphical monitoring and management interface that ORION has seen since its introduction in 2003,” says Bill Hammond, Vision Solutions’ director of product marketing.

The product captures changes being made on a production system and replicates those changes in real time to a backup system. “This protects the company against the pain of significant data loss in the event of an outage,” Hammond notes.

The role swap option also aids in protecting against data loss by providing a one-button automated option for automatic system backup in the event of an outage. “When the role swap occurs, users are redirected to the backup system, and operations can continue uninterrupted to avoid the typical cost of downtime,” Hammond explains.

Pricing starts at $5,500.

Integrity Offering Military-Grade
Secure Operating System for the Enterprise

Integrity Global Security, LLC is a new company formed to market the Integrity Secure Separation Architecture, an operating system with the highest-level security classification ever awarded by the National Information Assurance Partnership (NIAP), a program of the National Security Agency (NSA).

“We are offering military-grade security for the enterprise,” says David Chandler, CEO of the new firm, and a 15-year executive with Green Hills Software, the embedded real-time operating system supplier that produced the Integrity product.

Integrity is certified to be conforming to the common criteria for the Separation Kernel Protection Profile (SKPP) standard. The NIAP has certified Integrity to Evaluation Assurance Level (EAL) 6+ High Robustness Common Criteria Certification. This designation is awarded after years of rigorous testing by experts at the NSA, including penetration testing by experts with access to Integrity’s source code.

At the core of Integrity is the Secure Separation Architecture, the result of a six-step design, engineering and testing process called Principles of High Assurance Separation Engineering (Phase). In this system, security-critical components are isolated from the rest of the system, and the system has been proven in the field.

The price had not been set as of press time.
