Flexera InstallShield’s Latest Release Supports Microsoft’s MSIX

9.20.18

Flexera, the company that’s reimagining how software is bought, sold, managed and secured, today announced the release of InstallShield 2018 R2, providing easy installation creation and conversion support for MSIX, the latest deployment type from Microsoft. The release also offers a new, easier-to-use InstallShield designer interface to help development teams move faster and improve time-to-value.

Out-of-the-Box Support to Build MSIX Packages
Microsoft’s new packaging format, MSIX, brings together the best of MSI, AppX and App-V into one package and runs applications in their own containers, enabling cleaner installations and uninstalls. InstallShield 2018 R2 supports creating MSIX packages or migrating existing MSI projects effortlessly. Developers will be able to use existing installation projects to generate MSIX packages with just a few clicks.

“As Microsoft launches this powerful deployment platform, InstallShield is ready to help developers take advantage of its simplicity and cleaner builds,” said Venkat Ram Donga, Product Manager, InstallShield at Flexera. “We’re committed, as the leader in installation, to helping development teams benefit from new technology that makes life easier and leaves a positive first impression with customers.”

“We’re thrilled to see Flexera support MSIX so quickly,” said John Vintzel, Principal Program Manager Lead at Microsoft. “InstallShield and MSIX will empower software suppliers to help the industry deliver a better and cleaner installation experience.”
Fresh, Modern Designer for Installations

Installations are the first interaction with a software product, making an engaging and simple-to-use interface incredibly important. The new release also offers a fresh and modern designer interface, making it easier for developers to build a smooth customer experience. Other enhancements include options for end users to decide whether to download a new update or stay with an older version, as well as setting up a “force the update.”
