iWedia’s Teatro-3.0 Software Solution for Linux STB Now Available

9.12.16

iWedia, a leading provider of software solutions for TV devices to service operators and consumer electronics manufacturers, today announced that it has integrated its Linux-based Teatro-3.0 software solution for IP-connected zappers on top of SmarDTV’s SmarBOX Hybrid, the latest stylish designed family of hybrid Set-Top Boxes (STB) from SmarDTV ranging from entry level to Ultra HD models.

The announcement was made at IBC 2016, which is being held in Amsterdam from Friday, September 9th through to Tuesday, September 13th. Both SmarDTV (hall 1, booth C81) and iWedia (hall 5, booth B40) exhibit at the show where the integrated solution will be demonstrated.

SmarDTV’s SmarBOX Hybrid is a new range of FHD/UHD STB targeting Pay TV operators willing a first level of IP support without compromising on price. It supports a full range of front-end options (S2/C/T2 + IP) and offers a complete connectivity set, all this gathered within a very compact design.

Teatro-3.0, a software solution for IP-connected zappers, is based on Linux with a User Interface built in HTML/CSS which uses specific JavaScript APIs allowing access to digital TV features. The solution features DLNA (player and renderer), access to “walled garden” Web and OTT video services (CE-HTML portals, HbbTV applications), as well as Personal Video Recorder and Time Shift Buffer.

With respect to security, Teatro-3.0 is pre integrated with NAGRA anyCAST and with Conax Contego solutions for broadcast, multicast, and OTT services protection.

“Teatro-3.0 is ideally suited at entry level hybrid STB,” said Sunghoon Kim, VP Sales at iWedia. “However, it does not compromise on connectivity features as it gives full support to both home networking – through DLNA, and to Web and OTT video services – through HbbTV,” he added. “There is thus a perfect fit between this solution and SmarDTV’s SmarBOX Hybrid family of STB and we are delighted to have performed this integration.”
