SmartBear Expands Innovation in Native Mobile Testing Automation with Acquisition of Bitbar

8.29.19

SmartBear, the driver behind the industry’s best tools for ensuring quality software delivery, today announced the acquisition of Bitbar, provider of the world’s most advanced mobile app test automation platform and device cloud.

The addition of Bitbar’s innovative technology to the SmartBear product portfolio extends the company’s ability to empower organizations to fully embrace automation in order to deliver higher quality software faster. Bitbar offers customers the highest level of performance and scalability and is the most configurable among mobile app test platforms, allowing organizations to more easily integrate with CI/CD pipelines using APIs.

Bitbar is a natural complement to the SmartBear CrossBrowserTesting solution and strengthens the company’s ability to help customers ensure their web and mobile apps will run properly anywhere. With this acquisition, SmartBear will be able to spread the value of the Bitbar platform to the large and growing set of software development teams who are SmartBear customers.

Another level of coverage
Enterprises building software are struggling to meet the requirements of their customers. The need to deliver high quality mobile apps and web applications across operating systems, browsers, desktops, and devices has never been bigger, and to meet this challenge, organizations are looking to accelerate their automation rates to keep up with rapidly changing business demands. By allowing development and test teams to continue using their preferred technologies and processes, SmartBear simplifies this challenge.

Bitbar also supports a wide variety of frameworks used by developers (such as XCUITest and Espresso) and QA automation engineers (such as Appium), allowing them to automate tests with their framework of choice. Simply put, Bitbar lets customers do things they can’t do with other solutions, making it the clear choice to bring into the SmartBear portfolio.

“Bringing the Bitbar IP technology, along with the innovators who built it, into the SmartBear family is a big win for our customers,” said Christian Wright, Chief Product Officer and Executive GM at SmartBear. “With support for any test automation framework, unlimited device concurrency, and flexible deployment models, Bitbar enhances our customers’ ability to release better, higher-quality software faster.”

“We built Bitbar to make developers’ lives easier, helping software organizations to be agile and flexible,” said Marko Kaasila, CEO and Co-Founder of Bitbar. “Joining SmartBear means bringing the most flexible web and mobile app testing platform to more forward-thinking DevOps teams. Combining forces with an organization so committed to open source was just a natural next step. Our customers will continue to enjoy the platform they know and love, while now being able to leverage the broad range of SmartBear tools to make better software and deliver value faster.”

Today’s announcement follows the company’s acquisition of Cucumber earlier this year, and bolsters an already strong commitment to the support for popular open source offerings like Selenium, Appium, Espresso, and XCUITest.
