Melissa Data Awarded Certification in Service Organization Controls 2 (SOC2)

06.02.2015

Melissa Data, a leading provider of global contact data quality and address management solutions, today announced successful completion of its Service Organization Controls 2 (SOC2) Type 1 audit. SOC2 validation reaffirms Melissa Data’s commitment to operational excellence with high availability services; the process equips stakeholders such as business partners, customers and suppliers with an understanding of the company’s internal controls over data security, availability, processing integrity and confidentiality without conducting additional assessments.

“We recognize and respect our customers’ need for privacy and secure, high availability operations – their data is a business asset and our operations protect its value at every step of the data quality process,” said Phil Maitino, Chief Technology Officer, Melissa Data. “Achieving SOC2 Type 1 certification validates the comprehensive reliability and availability of our data handling processes throughout our organization. It’s a tremendous win for Melissa Data and our worldwide clientele, proving the accountability and effectiveness of our global data quality tools and services.”

The evaluation included Melissa Data’s design effectiveness of internal controls and processes. Security systems were validated as protected against unauthorized access, use, or modification; systems were verified as available for operation and use as committed; and information designated as confidential was proven to be protected as agreed.

SOC2 examinations are based on standards set forth by the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA). The process is widely recognized for establishing ethical and auditing practices for private companies, nonprofit organizations, and federal, state and local governments, and represents that a service organization has been through an evaluation of their control activities as they relate to applicable Trust Services Principles and Criteria. Conducted in accordance with the group’s SOC reporting standards, Melissa Data’s audit was executed by SSAE 16 Professionals, LLP, one of the nation’s leading CPA firms performing SOC2 examinations.
